Padma Bridge Paragraph 150 Words
Padma Multipurpose Bridge is a boost to the millions of people living in the southwestern part of Bangladesh. Earlier, the districts in this area remained isolated from the country’s main economic zone, the Dhaka-Chattogram economic corridor due to the absence of this bridge.
Earlier, people had no other options but to cross the Padma River through ferries, launches and boats to these districts. Lack of transport and communication was another issues that made it difficult for businesses to sustain themselves in the southwestern region.
These districts did not have a large concentration of industries. But it has effectively connected the earlier separated 21 southwestern districts with the mainstream economy.
The improved transportation by the bridge will thus create new business opportunities which will impact on both agriculture and industry in the region.
More so, the number of tourists visiting the area is on the rise thus boosting the expansion of the hospitality business.
Padma Bridge Paragraph 300 Words
The Padma Multipurpose Bridge is the longest bridge of Bangladesh and it is a great success as it is the largest project implemented without any foreign assistance. This bridge is constructed across the Padma-Brahmaputra-Meghna river basin and it has total of 42 pillars and 41 spans, each of 150 meters.
The bridge is 6.15 km long and 18.10 meters wide, and runs from Mawa in Munshiganj district to Jajira in Shariatpur district and has two tiers: the upper tier for a four-lane road and the lower tier for a railway line.
Padma Multipurpose Bridge was designed in detail by the international and national consultants led by AECOM. The construction of the contract was granted to China Major Bridge which is a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited.
Construction started from November 26, 2014 to June 23, 2022 and the official commissioning took place on June 25, 2022. On the occasion of the completion of construction of the bridge, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the first time crossed the bridge and paid the toll at Mawa end.
However, due to corruption allegations the World Bank and donor groups stopped funding and the entire construction was financed by the Bangladesh government at Rs 30,193.39 crore.
The transportation system between the southwestern region and the central region of Bangladesh is provided by Mawa-Jazira connection through Padma Multipurpose Bridge. This strategic infrastructure is likely to bring about a quantum jump in social, economic and industrial development of the comparatively backward area directly affecting more than 3 crore people in nearly 30,000 sq km (17,000 sq mi), which is 29% of the total geographical area of Bangladesh. This ambitious project is expected to increase Bangladesh’s GDP by 1.2 percent.
However, the Padma Bridge is not only significant for the nation, but it also has a major function in providing regional integration and economic growth of Asia and Southeast Asia. This project has created the dream for many people and it is the beginning of a new communication age for Bangladesh with the construction of Padma Bridge.
